By LabRat
Just took delivery of this BLX54 blender to replace an old plastic one. There is no comparison, the new one is nice and quiet (relatively speaking), seriously heavy duty - no danger of the goblet falling off or the lid flying off during use.A side benefit is that the goblet could be used as a very handy weapon:-)Very easy to clean as the whole blade assembly comes off in one piece, the inside of the lid is some kind of rubbery teflon stuff that rinses clean and the base is easy to wipe. Also - I just had a look for spares (for future), as this is Kenwood all the bits are easily available although considering the quality of construction it probably won't need any for a long time.Minus point (but not enough to take a star away) The goblet relies on it's square-ish shape and handle position to pour from the corner but as there is no real spout you tend to have the drink drip down the side.

By Victoria Clare
I was a little surprised when this blender arrived, that it had a note inside it saying that it could not be used for hot soup: everything blended must be at room temperature (how this works with the ice crushing feature I don't know!).Although this item is widely advertised on the internet as dishwasher safe, the actual instructions that came with it recommended hand washing and also said that the blade unit (ie, the plastic bit on the bottom that unclips from the motor) must not be immersed in water.I am prepared to live dangerously (and I bought it to replace a cheap non-dishwasher-safe plastic one that none the less survived many years of dishwashering until I accidentally forgot to put the rubber seal back on the base and flooded the motor with onion soup) so I fully intend to use this for warm soup, shove it in the dishwasher and generally ignore the instructions. However, if you are a lawabiding type, you might be bothered by this, and no doubt for a few months until I forget, I shall be watching it cautiously to see if it explodes or something when I wash it or put soup in. So, three stars only, because the description here doesn't properly reflect the product, which is always a bit of a disappointment. However, it does seem robust and well put together, so far as I can tell so far, only having used it a couple of times.Update June 2011 - OK, well using it for hot soup and dishwashing it has not killed it yet. However, you do have to be really careful if you do try to liquidise hot soup in it - because there is no vent, the lid can come off if you try to liquidise something hot and the pressure changes. I wish I'd bought a cheap plastic one, frankly.

By Nigel Green
I like the look of the blender. It seems to blend OK but the instructions say that soups should be allowed to cool to room temperature before blending! (Spontaneous soup makers beware.) I allowed my soup-mix to cool a bit before blending but clearly not enough. A few seconds after starting to blend, the jug cracked. The replacement service line is very good but the keen price that I got on Amazon has been rather cancelled out by the £31.25 replacement jug. You would have thought that it would have been possible to make a heat-resistant glass jug. I would then have awarded 5 stars.
